Advancing Equity Through Quality Improvement
(In-Person)

A Practitioners Approach to Achieving Equitable Outcomes

Workshop Overview

The Equity in Action workshop, Advancing Equity through Quality Improvement is a beginner’s workshop designed to engage and train practitioners on the foundations of Quality Improvement (QI) and the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle.

This workshop:

  • Leads with the principle that there is no quality without equity.

  • Introduces participants to QI concepts and critical tools that support equitable services and outcomes.

  • Supports participants in centering equity throughout the PDSA cycle.

  • Emphasizes how QI helps professionals and providers better meet the diverse needs of those who are providing, receiving, and partnering in services.

  • Brings practical, accessible information to professionals and providers who are unfamiliar with QI and/or using data and information to guide equitable improvement efforts.

This workshop is interactive. Participants will engage in small and large group discussions, polling, and hands-on activities throughout, and will have the opportunity to practice and apply what they are learning.

The workshop will take place either in-person over two days or virtually over five 3-hour sessions conducted in a two-and-a-half-week period, with a hands-on, 90-minute follow-up session six (6) weeks after the workshop to provide an opportunity for participants to engage with one another, sharing experiences in applying concepts, workshopping questions and challenges, and to further their learning. Participants must attend all workshop sessions and the 90-minute follow-up session to receive a certificate of completion and/or CEs for specific disciplines in which CEs are being provided.

Before the beginning of the workshop, participants will receive:

  • A hard copy of Embracing Quality in Public Health: A Practitioner’s Quality Improvement Guidebook

  • A hard copy of The Public Health Memory Jogger II

  • Access to a shared electronic portal that includes all other workshop materials
